Design Principles
In late 2022, I joined Oportun, tasked with managing a team of product designers handling a range of diverse products. By early 2023, my responsibilities expanded to overseeing all aspects of design at Oportun, including product design, brand design, and design operations.
This transition period coincided with Oportun's acquisition of Digit, merging two distinct company cultures into one cohesive entity. With this in mind, my focus was on fostering a supportive environment where designers could collaborate effectively to produce high-quality work.
One of our key initiatives was to revamp our design principles. Team members eagerly volunteered to lead working sessions and distill key insights. Through collaborative effort, we iterated on and shared these principles multiple times, ensuring they resonated with the team and that everyone was aligned behind them.
Our brand designer, Allison Hseih, created this graphic representing these principles in various formats, facilitating their adoption throughout the entire organization.
